Carbon Reduction Plan – Pivot Care Group Ltd

Pivot Care Group Ltd is committed to actively contributing to the UK Government’s Net Zero target by 2050. We believe that delivering compassionate care should go hand-in-hand with protecting the environment for future generations. Our sustainability strategy is not just a policy document – it is a guiding principle embedded across our governance, service delivery, procurement and organisational culture.

Our Carbon Reduction Plan, published in May 2025, outlines our baseline emissions, reduction targets, progress to date and the actions we’re taking across the organisation. It is led by Registered Manager Adebisi Adesina, with coordination by HR and Compliance Manager Barakat Yusuf. Reviewed annually, the plan aligns with PPN 06/21, the UK Net Zero Strategy and Rotherham Council’s climate priorities.

Our Commitment to Net Zero

We are committed to reaching Net Zero by 2050, with the following interim targets:

  • 15% reduction by 2025
  • 40% reduction by 2030
  • 80% reduction by 2040
  • Net Zero by 2050

Our CRP forms part of our wider Quality and Governance Framework and has been integrated into our strategic decision-making. It will evolve as we grow, adopt new technologies and deepen our collaboration with local partners.

Baseline Emissions and Current Progress

We established our baseline in 2022, with emissions as follows:

Scope Category Description Emissions (tCOe)
Scope 1 Direct Emissions Company transport, building gas usage 50
Scope 2 Indirect Emissions from Energy Electricity consumption 70
Scope 3 Indirect Emissions – Value Chain Staff commuting, procurement and waste generation 65
Total 185

Total Baseline Emissions: 185 tCO₂e

By the end of 2024, we had achieved a 10% reduction, bringing total emissions down to approximately 185 tCO₂e, primarily due to fleet changes, digitalisation and office energy upgrades.

Our Carbon Reduction Model

We have built our approach around six operational pillars. These allow us to embed sustainability into everyday actions, from office energy to staff behaviour and procurement.

1. Energy Efficiency in Workspaces

Our current head office has undergone several upgrades:

  • Replaced all lighting with LED alternatives
  • Installed smart thermostats and timers for heating and hot water
  • Conducted a thermal efficiency audit and sealed all window and door draughts
  • Introduced energy usage tracking software linked to our supplier’s API

We aim to relocate to an EPC A-rated property by 2030, reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by a projected 35%.

2. Fleet and Transport Management

Transport is a significant contributor in the care sector. In 2023, we introduced:

  • One hybrid company car for care coordination and on-call visits
  • Optimised rotas using PASS Genius smart scheduling – reducing daily mileage by 18%
  • Encouraged staff to carpool and use public transport through a staff travel incentive scheme

We plan to transition to a 100% electric fleet by 2027 and are exploring co-funded vehicle charging solutions with local housing providers.

3. Digital Transformation

We are committed to operating as digitally as possible to reduce paper, postal and storage-related emissions.

Key systems in use include:

  • PASS Genius for paperless care plans, MAR charts, risk assessments and outcome tracking
  • DocuSign for all internal and external document signing
  • Microsoft 365 (Teams, OneDrive, Outlook) for communication, cloud storage and collaboration
  • Online Learning Portals for induction and ongoing training

These systems have cut our paper usage by 78% in just 18 months and reduced courier/postal emissions by 60%.

4. Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain

From Q4 2025, all suppliers will be required to complete our new Sustainable Procurement Self-Assessment, which evaluates vendors on:

  • Packaging materials
  • Logistics emissions
  • Product durability and recyclability
  • Environmental certifications

5. Waste and Recycling Management

We are transitioning to Veolia Environmental Services, a certified waste contractor, to support:

  • 100% recycling coverage for general, clinical and confidential waste
  • Quarterly waste audits, with carbon reports submitted to our board
  • Food and organic waste separation in partnership with housing providers

We are in active discussions with Rotherham Council’s waste team to implement communal recycling in supported tenancies.

6. Staff and Tenant Engagement

Creating a ‘green culture’ is vital. All new staff receive environmental induction training, including:

  • Understanding the link between care delivery and sustainability
  • Waste segregation and responsible energy use
  • Low-emission commuting options

Catherine Nwabueze, Care Assessor, runs monthly Eco Briefings for frontline staff. In 2024, tenants at our Maltby supported living scheme participated in a recycling pilot project that cut landfill waste by 30%.

Governance and Monitoring

Carbon reduction governance is led by our Quarterly Quality & Governance Committee, chaired by Adebisi Adesina.

We use Microsoft Power BI to track:

  • Monthly kWh consumption
  • Travel logs from fleet fuel cards
  • Supplier emissions scores
  • Staff travel patterns and recycling rates

Progress is reported quarterly and shared with the board. By 2026, we aim to complete an ISO 14001 gap analysis and work toward full environmental certification by 2028.

Local Alignment – Rotherham Council’s Environmental Goals

We support the council’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral borough. To contribute to this:

  • We will participate in the Rotherham Social Care Sustainability Forum
  • Work with Voluntary Action Rotherham and REMA to run carbon literacy sessions for staff and tenants
  • Ensure our supported living schemes meet PAS 2035 retrofit standards where we hold tenancy responsibilities

Our vision is to embed environmental responsibility as part of delivering holistic care – because the health of people and planet are interdependent.

SMART Targets to 2050

Year Action Target Outcome
2025 Implement staff travel scheme, finalise fleet transition roadmap 15% reduction in total CO₂e
2026 Join local sustainability forums, supplier scoring begins 20% of vendors compliant
2027 100% electric fleet, carbon budget introduced 30% reduction
2028 ISO 14001 alignment, publish public impact report Enhanced transparency
2030 Relocate to EPC A-rated office 40% reduction
2040 Scope 1 and 2 emissions nearly eliminated 80% reduction
